Become a Member of the Steering Committee and/ or other Committees: What Does it Take?

The steering committee should be formed of at least one volunteer representing each cereal growing region of the world who is willing to meet regularly, select their own leaders and to discuss and propose the following:

• Select initial volunteers for the steering committee and any other committees that may be set up if there is enough interest and the steering committee sees the need or benefit for separate committees; (such as conference committee, association committee and definition of terms committee);
• Steering committee members will be selected initially by the current scientific committee from among the volunteers who answer the survey;
• The steering committee will participate in virtual quarterly meetings and time involvement is estimated at 4-6 hours a month.

A conference committee would:

• Set place and date of next conference;
• Organize and prepare for the next conference and/or delegate the organization to an appropriate entity;
• Oversee the progress of that entity in planning and executing the conference;
• Suggest and organize procedure for selecting hosts for future conference; Suggest or locate sources of funding for the conference;
• The conference committee will participate in virtual quarterly meetings and time involvement is estimated at 4-6 hours a month.

An association committee would:

• Study the pre-conditions for setting up an independent organization or association;
• Begin the above process and/ or report back on work to the next conference;
• Draft mission statement;
• Suggest or locate sources of funding for the association;
• Draft a definition of terms/ topics (this could be delegated to a separate committee/ task force);
• Draft a definition of terms be presented at the next conference;
• The conference committee will participate in virtual quarterly meetings and time involvement is estimated at 4-6 hours a month.
